In response to environmental degradation and the need to enhance the resilience and productivity of agricultural systems across much of Cameroon, this preparatory grant supports the design of a pilot program to promote sustainable agricultural intensification and agroecological transition.

Objectives

  • Design a national pilot program supporting sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural development.
  • Promote the integration of agroecological approaches into public policy and agricultural practices.
  • Strengthen institutional and technical capacity for planning, monitoring, and environmental management.

Results to date

As of 31 December 2024,
  • Three key technical studies completed: Environmental and social management framework, Diagnostic of agroecological practices, Agricultural business models for sustainable intensification.
  • Operational planning initiated through a work plan and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Preliminary consultations launched with farmer organisations and decentralised administrations.
  • A governance framework for the full program is being developed for implementation in 2025.
